Ingredients

12 Sweet Hawaiian rolls, cut into quarters

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup crushed pineapple, drained

1/2 cup shredded coconut, toasted (optional)

1/4 cup maple syrup (for serving)

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Prepare the Bread: Place the quartered Sweet Hawaiian rolls in the prepared baking dish, distributing them evenly. If using, sprinkle the drained crushed pineapple and toasted coconut on top of the rolls.

Make the Custard Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the rolls, pressing down gently to ensure all pieces soak in the custard. Let it sit for about 15 minutes, allowing the rolls to absorb the mixture.

Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Serve warm, drizzled with maple syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar.
