Ingredients

For the dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

1 cup whole milk, warmed to 110°F (43°C)

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 large eggs

For the filling:

2 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

For the cream cheese frosting:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2-3 tablespoons milk (to adjust consistency)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy. Incorporate melted butter, salt, and eggs. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

      Prepare the Filling:

In a medium bowl, toss the diced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, and brown sugar until well coated. Set aside.

          Roll Out the Dough:

After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a 15x10-inch rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick. Spread the softened butter for the filling evenly over the surface.

              Add the Apple Filling:

Sprinkle the cinnamon apple mixture evenly over the buttered dough, pressing it down gently to adhere.

                  Roll and Cut:

Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal. Cut the log into 12 equal slices and place them in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover with a cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

                      Bake the Rolls:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. Let them cool slightly in the pan.

                          Make the Cream Cheese Frosting:

In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter with an electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth, adding milk one tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.

                              Frost and Serve:

Generously spread the cream cheese frosting over the warm rolls. Serve immediately for the best taste!
