Ingredients

2 ripe bananas, mashed

1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/3 cup melted coconut oil (or vegetable oil)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup cocoa powder

1/2 cup chocolate chips (and extra for topping, if desired)

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the mashed bananas, applesauce, brown sugar, granulated sugar, melted coconut oil, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder. Ensure there are no lumps.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Add Extras: Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts, if using, until evenly distributed.

Pour and Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing it out evenly. If desired, sprinkle additional chocolate chips on top for extra indulgence.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Cool and Serve: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before lifting them out using the parchment paper. Let cool completely on a wire rack before slicing into squares.

Enjoy: Serve these delicious Banana Bread Brownies slightly warm or at room temperature. They pair wonderfully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream!
